Therapeutic Focus

Individual adults, couples, children/adolescents and their families currently struggling with relationship, communication and intimacy issues, depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief and loss, trauma, and abuse.

Individual, couples and family therapy using a variety of approaches including: family/systems, cognitive/behavioral, attachment and relational theories, grief and loss, and insight-oriented. Approved Clinical Supervisor for professionals working towards their LICSW, LMFT or LPCC.

Therapeutic Philosophy

Who we are today is directly related to our past experiences, whether positive or negative. Change, growth and healing occur through an examination of events in our lives and within the relationships we have in the present. Jim believes in being respectful and direct, and using his sense of humor to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment.

History

Since receiving his Masters in Social Service from Bryn Mawr College in 1981, Jim has practiced psychotherapy in outpatient, day and residential treatment settings, adding licensures in marriage and family therapy and clinical social work along the way. In 2002 he became an Approved Clinical Supervisor, qualifying him to oversee therapists seeking independent licensure. Jim’s administrative experience includes development and supervision of a county day treatment program and Director of Program Operations for a metro-area mental health center. He and his wife, Lisa, founded The Jonas Center in 2006 serving Cologne, Eden Prairie, Glencoe and surrounding communities. Jim and Lisa have three adult children, a daughter-in-law and two grandsons.
