For most, the decision to speak with a therapist comes after a lot of thought and with some apprehension – especially for those new to therapy. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been through it before, our goal is to make your experience safe, comfortable and welcoming.
First Contacting the Jonas Center
When you first call, our office manager Joyce will likely answer the phone. She will ask you a few questions about your preference in a therapist, your availability, and your insurance plan before scheduling an initial appointment. You will be matched with the therapist who can best meet your needs, and you can speak with the therapist before your appointment if you would like. Just ask Joyce to have the therapist give you a call.
Before the First Appointment
Prior to your first appointment The Jonas Center requires some information from you that will remain confidential. We ask that you sign your consent for treatment, fill out some basic appointment information and a pre-authorized healthcare payment form (if applicable), and complete an intake form. Descriptions and links to all these forms are available below. If you prefer, you can also have Joyce mail them to you or come in 15 minutes before your first appointment.
The First Session
The first session begins with what you can expect from us and your rights and responsibilities as a client. Then we discuss what you’d like to get out of therapy before beginning the development of a treatment plan that specifies goals and strategies. Each therapist has their own way of approaching your unique circumstances, but they all have the same goal of establishing a therapeutic relationship that improves your well being.
By the end of the session, you and your therapist will have reviewed and signed copies of expectations, rights and responsibilities. Most importantly, you will have begun work on a plan with clear goals and the strategies to reach them.
