Therapeutic Focus

Synnove (aka Nova) works with children (ages 5 & up), teens, adults, couples, and families who have concerns around anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, PTSD, trauma, abuse, relationships, behavioral issues, grief and loss, chronic pain, and parenting struggles.

Competencies

Nova has experience using a systematic therapeutic approach to families and relationships. She is also competent in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, trauma, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), solution focused, sand-tray, and parenting techniques. She specializes in working with children who have experienced trauma/abuse through a Play Therapy model.

Therapeutic Philosophy

Nova believes relationships and current/past experiences can impact who we are and what we do throughout our lives. She is passionate about reconnecting and strengthening relationships from all aspects of life to family, parenting, friendships, and ourselves that can provide support, understanding, and love. She values working with clients through challenging times, to help them make healthy choices on their journey of healing and peace.

History

Nova began her career in 2009 interning at Range Mental Health in Virginia, MN working with children and adolescents in a school and group setting. She expanded her experience at Lutheran Social Service Resource Center assisting children and families during difficult life transitions. Nova has been apart of The Jonas Center team since 2013. In her free time, Nova loves spending time with her husband and family, going outdoors/fishing, traveling, crafting, playing sports, and dressing her family up for Halloween.
